Frequently Asked Questions

Most Swedish universities require IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 5.5 for Master's programmes, and 6.0 for Bachelor's. Some technical programmes at KTH and Chalmers accept 6.0 overall.

The main intake is Autumn (August) — applications open in mid-October and close mid-January. A smaller Spring (January) intake has applications from mid-June to mid-August.

You must prove SEK 10,584 per month in your own bank account for 10 months per study year (Migrationsverket, 2025 rate). Tuition for the first semester must also be paid upfront.

Most complete applications from Pakistan are processed in 2–3 months. Apply as soon as you receive admission — permits are issued only after tuition is paid.

Yes — there is no legal limit on working hours for students holding a residence permit, though the Migration Agency expects at least 40 hours/week of study. Most students work 10–20 hours a week.

Yes. After graduation you can apply for a 12-month residence permit to look for work or start a business. Finding a qualified job can lead to a work permit and eventually permanent residence.

Correct — since 2011, non-EU/EEA students (including Pakistanis) pay tuition fees. EU/EEA and Swiss students study for free. Doctoral (PhD) programmes are free and usually come with a salary.
